I am very reluctant to go to the grocery store for fear of what happened last week.....

It was Monday of last week and I knew I needed a few items to bake cupcakes for my son Preston who was turning the BIG 4 years old on Tuesday! So, not realizing how much Okies (Oklahomans) fear blizzards (which was coming that night...) I set out to the local grocery store to buy a few goodies. OH MY! It was crazy. I have never seen so many people in the middle of the day buying groceries. Once I finally made it through the aisles, (which everyone else in Edmond, OK was also trying to do) I headed to the check out to pay. Well.....guess who else was at the grocery store. None other than the local news interviewing the poor lady in front of me. Here I am....no makeup...(I was planning on baking most of the day) in sweat pants with about 3 different cupcake batters, cream cheese, powdered sugar, canned frosting... in case mine didn't turn out. Then, there was the News asking people around me and in front of me if they were stocked up for the storm... Ummmm, please help them not ask me, please help them not ask me....I am reciting this in my head the entire time I am standing in line. Here I am buying cake mixes and frosting and the biggest storm in years is on it's way to us.... As if my son is really going to have his party at school the next day, Right?

Well, needless to say school was closed the rest of that week..and my family did eat all of the cupcakes I made. They also had good warm meals as well....we did have other groceries thank goodness. :0) The point to my story is...another storm is headed our way and this time I need to go to the store, but I really do not want to... I think I will send hubby once he leaves the office. For now, I will continue to pray that school isn't out all week again and that Ritzy Baby orders can continue to ship without mother nature taking over.
Will write more later....until then xoxo, BridgetteRitzy Babyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00722722828021400428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136466036682221855.post-51251650350720734342011-02-06T15:57:00.000-08:002011-02-06T18:37:24.616-08:00FREE INFANT CAR SEAT COVER GIVEAWAY!!!!!!I think one place that I could do better is by running weekly contests...SO......let's do one this week! I love blogging, so I ask myself why is this blog getting such neglect.... I am sure we could all agree that life happens and sometimes it just happens to be quite hectic. I remember being younger and hearing my family say "There is just not enough time in the day." Okay......well as a child that never made sense, until now. I will try to do better, but my life is hectic so I make no promises...However, I do promise to do the best that I can!

Things have been crazy for Ritzy Baby the past week. We are based out of Oklahoma and the weather has been less than pleasing. Personally, I love snow skiing and going to Breck every Spring Break, but I truly can live without blizzards here in Oklahoma. It does nothing but slow us down, close schools, businesses, roads....and basically life in general. :0) Sad, I know. So, I spent the majority of this week letting customers know we were basically "snowed in" and apologizing in advance that our shipping services would not be quite as speedy as normal. Every Ritzy Baby customer was absolutely wonderful. I truly am thankful for my amazing customers. I am so lucky to have such an amazing business with customers that are the BEST. So, thank you to everyone that may have been affected by this snow storm we have had. I hope you all know how appreciated you are!!!!

Not sure if you have became a fan of Ritzy on Facebook, but if you haven't yet then you should!!! We try to post daily on Facebook. We offer deals, special sales, things to come and so on. Right now the buzz is all about the NEW fabrics that we are sharing. Ritzy Baby is asking fans to vote on our new Spring fabrics. Our favorite so far is the Moonstone, but we would love to hear what your favorite is. Check out the options and tell us what your favorite is. We would also like to know what other products you would like to see Ritzy Baby design. Would you like matching diaper bags? baby bedding? Let us know and we will do our best to put your requests into action!!! Check out the amazing options below. Look forward to hearing from you!
So, it has been a few days since I blogged but I am hoping to hop right back into where we were-here we go!

We were talking about budgets, manufacturing etc (what a fun place to pick back up...) So far with Ritzy these areas seem to be the most challenging for me personally. Manufacturing is tough and everything seems to revolve around it. It is also something that you cannot personally do your self. Many things that take place I can fix, but manufacturing takes much more than just me to fix. I don't know about you, but I know that I would much rather fix things myself than to try to explain it to someone else. (I know....I know....you are thinking I am a control freak....I am sure that is another blog subject....so let's just skip getting into that right now) Bottom line.... no matter how much you may want to fix things yourself....manufacturing isn't that simple.

It takes a long time to make everything perfect, just like you want it and just like your customers expect it. Then, you get it perfect and as with everything else there is change! So, you regroup and start over. Starting over is not always fun, but sometimes it cannot be helped. There will always be change in our lives so if we can continue to learn and grow with each process it is a fun journey, but just be prepared for constant change!

One thing I can say is I truly LOVE what I do. I know that with every bump in the road I have came back even stronger than before. It is my amazing customers that have made Ritzy Baby what it is today. Thank you to all for growing with Ritzy and allowing me to continue my awesome journey! Thanksgiving is coming soon and I have so much to be thankful for. Until next time....
I get the question "What made you start your business?" a lot. So, why not blog about it so I can share the story with those that are interested.

First, I would just like to warn you that I am not always the most positive person to ask about starting your own business. I can truly say that this little leap of faith I took 5 years ago has been the hardest thing that I have ever done in my life. Don't get me wrong...I would never go back and change anything. I am a firm believer that each mistake I made a long the way was a learning lesson...a "what not to do next time" type lesson. :0) We all have those lessons in life, but I had (still have) a lot of bumps in the road with this venture.

I love creating new things, I love making pretty, sophisticated things and finding great prints for boys. I love coming up with ideas that just make sense for mom and baby. That is the FUN part! The part that makes you feel good about what you are doing and the part that KEEPS you going. It is the amazing emails from customers that give you good goosebumps, that make everything worth the bumpy ride. I cannot tell you how many times I have had emails from customers that absolutely made my day or week! BUT....unfortunately there is business involved...that "icky" word that creeps up when you are trying to come up with new innovative fun designs. That word that my husband has to remind me of when I am over-budget...(which I am all too good at from what I am told) UGH---this is the part that is no fun. Don't get me wrong, I know we all have to make a living and the reason for starting a company is to make it successful, right? However, the reporting and the budgets and the manufacturing...... oh the manufacturing.... This part is the worst, it is for the birds!!!! HA! I said it! It feels good....but then it is time to get real again... I cannot say it is for the birds...this is my business. This is what I do, it has to be successful... Right? Stay tuned for more....

Hello to all Ritzy Baby readers and those that may just stumble across our blog by accident. First, I would like to introduce myself to the blog. My name is Bridgette and I am the owner of Ritzy Baby. After a lot of thought and even a little inspiration by one of my personal favorites from the New Jersey Housewives, Jacqueline Laurita I have decided to take over the Ritzy Baby blog. For some reason I have yet to blog about my own life and experiences with Ritzy Baby and now I feel it is time. It’s my turn to put myself out there… No worries, if you decide to hit the little x in the top right corner of your screen…I will never know. For those of you that choose not to hit the little x in the top right, thank you! I hope to share some fun stories, pictures, projects, ritzy sales, giveaways and just my crazy life as a mom and entrepreneur with you. I know my DH is probably thinking I am crazy about right now because I have very little free time as it is, but just like everything else….it will work itself out and I will find the time.

Where should we start? I am feeling like a giveaway….something to get the readers involved, and Ritzy Baby seriously needs some facebook love! If you happen to read the NJ Housewives blog that I posted above, you will see where the precious Jacqueline Laurita mentioned Ritzy Baby has GREAT blankets for her son Nicholas. (no, I didn’t pay her to say that…as if I could afford that in the first place!) Let’s do a beautiful Ritzy Baby blanket giveaway. We have a gorgeous selection of new fabrics and the winner can choose the style of a full size blanket (30x36-Value-$64.00) that they love the most! Let’s just do a fun, simple 5 day contest and giveaway some Ritzy!
Two because I can always have one clean and in my car in case one needs to be washed. I cant tell you what happened this particular night…..full moon, stars weren’t in alignment I don’t know…what I DO KNOW is that we ended up at a crowded restaurant on a Friday night and NO high chair cover in tow.

I don’t know who was more confused and disoriented, me or Little Miss…she was placed into a “naked” restaurant high chair as I frantically looked around for a cover to magically appear and maintain my calmness as best I could….all I was thinking about was, “all the germs, who sat here before her, were they sick, did they wipe this chair down, etc etc etc”

As Little Miss tried to non chalantly look around, she is way more discreet then I, and observe that she was sitting in a chair like all the other children around her, not in her yummy, fluffy, CLEAN high chair cover that protects her from the filth of what’s left behind on those chairs, I tried to calmly wipe down all sides of her chair with wipes.

Now, I am wondering if I should just have all the restaurants we frequent keep one there just for our use when we do come in, would that be asking too much??

My germ phobia aside Ritzy Baby has some new and fabulous shopping cart/high chair covers coming out just in time for Spring/Summer!!! Just like new clothing lines we at Ritzy Baby LOVE to update our fabrics and styles. These new styles include ruffles along the bottom, toy holders, pockets and a place to hold your sippy cup (or in my case, maybe antibacterial wipes).

Be sure to go to http://www.ritzybaby.com/ and check them out….we have already presold a lot of them, so get one OR two (always have a backup) while they are hot!! Also be sure to go to http://www.ritzybabyonline.com/ and shop all the other wonderful infant, children’s and mommy products we have.

Thank you to all our Ritzy Baby customers.
Ritzy Babyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00722722828021400428noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136466036682221855.post-86082680350639415532009-12-22T11:28:00.000-08:002009-12-22T11:30:18.507-08:00Family TraditionsWhere has the time gone?! Its four days before Christmas and I still don’t have ONE stocking put up. We will be lucky if they are down from the attic at this point, much less hung with care!

I had all these big plans for this year, since Little Miss is now 19 months old. We managed to get a table top tree up. I had visions of her scaling our 6 foot tree we have and it toppling over. Instead, we spend all day with her climbing up the chair and onto the table, to point and grab ornaments. By the end of the day I am so over that tree!

But back to traditions, when I was a child I remember we always had a nice family dinner, after my sister and I each got to open one present before we went to midnight mass in our new Christmas dresses! I want to start traditions with my daughter but will obviously have to be satisfied with the few things we have done thus far and try to add new things each year as she gets older.

What are some Holiday Traditions that you grew up with and have since incorporated into your current family?

At Ritzy Baby we wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and please enjoy this time with your family!

www.ritzybaby.com
www.ritzybabyonline.comRitzy Babyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00722722828021400428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6136466036682221855.post-20336571243898090062009-12-08T11:20:00.000-08:002009-12-08T11:27:26.327-08:00HO HO OH NO!!

And I shop like it’s an Olympic sport, which means I would medal in the gold-FOR SURE!!

What’s the problem you ask? Well, for each gift I bought I also bought a duplicate for Moi. Yeah, I said it! One for you, one for me! I couldn’t help it because the gifts I buy are gifts I would want for myself-so why not, tis the season and all. Right?

Well, I seem to have spent my entire Christmas budget (there’s a little left) and I have ALOT of gifts yet to buy. It’s not like when I was 8 and could go into my dad’s office and raid his pencil cup and wrap up all his pens to “gift” to him. Ahhh, the good old days, but I digress. I am running out of time and money and will be scouring the internet for ALL the great deals out there to be had.

If you are also doing the same make sure to check order deadlines. Here at Ritzy Baby all of our CUSTOM orders must be in by Friday, December 11 in order to be delivered by Christmas. Better yet, shop our everyday inventory for in stock items that will ship within 24 hours of order.

We have so many WONDERFUL things to choose from right now! At our house it means a road trip down to The Big “D” to see the family, eat lots of good food and our favorite sport, shopping! And by shopping I don’t mean staying up all night outside in the cold, because along the way, the long lines and the big crowds have gotten to be TOO much. Which is why I have started doing a lot of my shopping online.

At Ritzy Baby we are in the process of adding MANY new vendors to our web store, just in time for the Holidays. We are so excited to bring you new items, such as Ruffle Butts, Kalencom and JJ Cole just to name a FEW! Don’t stand in the long lines and get up at the crack of dawn this year for Black Friday. So as I ticked off my mental checklist: sweaters-check, long pants-check, hat-check, mittens-check, warm coat-check and so on, it got me to thinking about keeping her warm while traveling.

One thing I do miss about the Infant car seat carrier, (I know can you believe I said that about a 40 pound carrier that I had to lug around for 12 months), is that I could cover her up with those infant carrier covers. Little Miss and I made the long trek down to Dallas to spend 4 days with family and trick or treat with her cousins. I got her the cutest Bumble Bee custom tutu costume. But, why didn’t anyone warn me that a 17 month old wouldn’t think it was cute or cool to be decked out in tulle and marabou feather? At one point she had feathers coming out of her mouth because she was eating her costume!

A few cute and cool things at Ritzy Baby are three new infant car seat covers that are BELOW $60. Happy Halloween! Is it wrong that I ordered “Little Miss” her Halloween costume back in June? I am so excited this year because she is walking now; we have even taught her to say “trick or treat”. Of course she just sounds like a bird chirping, isn’t that cute?!

Below are 5 tips to a Healthier Halloween:

1. Give your child a nutritious meal before he goes trick-or-treating. This will fill him up and make it less likely that he'll be eating the candy before he even gets home.
2. Let your child indulge a bit. Not allowing your child to eat her Halloween candy will just drive her to want it more. Although a low-fat diet is important for children, allowing the occasional indulgence, especially on a fun-oriented holiday like Halloween, is also important.
3. Set limits on how much candy can be eaten at once. When your child returns home from trick-or-treating, ask her to pick the 10 pieces of candy that she wants to keep. Take the rest away and use them as substitutes for lunch treats or desserts.
4. Have your child brush and floss his teeth thoroughly before going to bed. Although this should be done every night, it's especially important that your child's teeth be free of the Halloween sugar.
5. Donate your leftover candy to charity. Not only will this prevent your child from continuing to eat candy for months to come, it will help teach her the value of helping others.

Be sure to share some of your favorite Halloween ideas or stories with us.

Check out Ritzy Baby's BOOTIQUE sale on all Ritzy Baby infant and toddler car seat covers now through October 31st! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! While it was GREAT to go see the grandparents and Balloon Fiesta the 8 ½ hour drive each way was not.

It was only after we had the car loaded, and by loaded I mean: stroller, pack n play, 3 suitcases, and several tote bags full of toys just to name a few things…oh yes, and both dogs, there wasn’t anyway to put “Little Miss” into her car seat. You see we had packed things on both sides of her seat, in front of her seat and all along the floor board. Hmmm, we spent that whole day taking her in and out of the car from the front seat, not an easy task I might add.

I have listed below an article on traveling with baby, either air or road travel. But, the best advice given to me and what I have learned as well is: pack trash bags (in case of motion sickness), do not give any dairy products on day of travel (in case of motion sickness; learned this the hard way), and a portable DVD player is a great and worthwhile investment! Enjoy the article:

High-Flying Advice
1. Travel off-peak. This varies with the route and the season, so ask the airline which flights to your destination fill most slowly. You'll have a better choice of seats, and the plane is less likely to be packed. Avoid flights with long layovers or late-night connections.
2. Reserve seats when you book. Though final seating assignments aren't guaranteed until check-in, prebooking ups the odds of getting your preference. (Keep in mind that a car seat can be installed only in a seat next to a window.) On your departure date, be sure to arrive early enough to ensure that you get your choice. Remember that the coveted front-row seats with attachments for bassinets are assigned first to families with younger babies, so your chances of snagging these are slim. Also, many airlines such as United save the best seats for business travelers and frequent fliers.
3. Bring your child's car seat. "Unrestrained children have been seriously hurt during air turbulence," says Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Kathryn Creedy. As a result, the FAA recommends that children under 2 be buckled into a car seat while flying. Although a child that age who has a seat of her own (as opposed to being held on your lap) pays 50 percent of an adult fare on major U.S. airlines, the extra cost is well worth it.
4. Preboard the seat, not the baby. Although airlines no longer officially preboard families, most will do it on request. However, preboarding adds an extra 30 to 45 minutes of being cooped up with a 1-year-old. Have the person you're traveling with claim the seat and stow the bags, then wait until the last moment to board with your child.
5. Check your stroller at the gate before boarding. That way, the crew will have it waiting for you when you get off the plane.
6. Adjust your toddler's nap schedule so he will sleep on the plane. This means knowing your child's patterns: Some kids will sleep if they've skipped their naps; others will remain awake (and cranky) from overtiredness. Though some parents give their kids antihistamine syrup before a flight to promote sleepiness, resist the urge. It's never a good idea to give any kind of medicine to a healthy child.
7. Dress your child in easily removable layers. Airports and planes can be hot one moment, freezing the next.
8. Be on the alert for ear pain. If your child has recently had an ear infection or a cold, get your doctor's approval before flying. The change in cabin air pressure may cause pain, but swallowing or sucking on a bottle or Sippy cup usually solves the problem. Offer a drink at the first sign of discomfort.
9. Keep drinks close at hand. Flying is even more dehydrating for children than it is for adults, so make sure they get plenty of fluids.
10. Change diapers in the rear. Wide-body and newer planes have large fold-down changing tables in the lavatories, but U.S. airlines still fly many older planes that do not. In that case, ask a flight attendant if you can use adjoining empty seats in the back of the plane as a changing area.

On the Road Again
1. Time it right. Toddler car travel presents fewer challenges than flying. But that doesn't mean your child won't get cranky, overtired, or carsick. To make a road trip go as smoothly as possible, start out close to your child's regular naptime so she'll sleep for part of the journey.
2. Entertain your child. Even the most independent toddler cannot amuse himself for hours. Consider sitting beside him if another adult is driving.
3. Limit driving time to six hours a day. In addition, make stops at safe, well-populated rest areas every two hours so you and your child can recharge.
4. Protect your child from the sun. Apply a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, and keep back windows shaded.

Please feel free to leave a comment about some of your favorite travel tips.

Also, check out our new custom section for your Infant and Toddler covers. Who cares if I haven’t washed my hair in two days or my clothes are wrinkled and don’t match, my daughter looks precious and that’s all that counts right?

Well, I went out to run errands the other evening without my best accessory and I had nothing to distract from the fact that my hair was a mess, I didn’t have any makeup on, and my shirt didn’t match my pants. And by pants I mean the black gauchos my husband threatened to burn because I wore them all during and after pregnancy. I try and sneak them into my weekly wardrobe and pretend I don’t see him cringe when he sees them.

Below are some Fall Must Haves for the busy mom:
Denim Everyone has heard the term Mom Jeans. Its an ugly term so, invest in a good pair of jeans, such as something long and dark, that flatter the body can greatly improve a wardrobe.
Layer Moms know that layers are not only fashionable, they are practical. After hauling a baby carrier and a crying toddler into the grocery store, most moms feel like they have completed a hard work-out at the gym. Dressing in layers allows the mom to remove excess clothing in such frantic times. Tossing on a long cardigan over a fitted t-shirt is a great way for a mother to layer and look fashionable in the process.
Double-duty bag Many moms find it burdensome to carry around a diaper bag and a purse. They often forgo their cute bag for the practical diaper bag. This does not have to be the case. Find a cute purse that can also hold the necessary baby supplies and can spice up your look instantly.
Little Black Dress For decades, fashion mavens have been discussing the importance of owning a good little black dress that can transition effortlessly from daytime to nighttime. There are many choices of little black dresses that will work for moms, whether she is attending story time at the library or cooking dinner for her brood. The key is finding a fabric that moves easily and has a child-friendly neckline and hemline.
Accessories A chunky beaded necklace or an armful of bangle bracelets can do wonders for a basic t-shirt and jeans combination. Not only do accessories perk up an outfit and help draw attention away from tired Mommy eyes, they also serve double-duty as an emergency form of entertainment for little ones.
Shoes Moms need shoes that are comfortable, able to withstand the assault of a playground's woodchips and stylish. The non-athletic tennis shoe is a perfect choice for moms because it offers the comfort of a tennis shoe in a subtle style that can be paired nicely with jeans and a cute top. Ballet flats are another option that help keep moms on their toes in a functional yet trendy way.
Save those faded yoga pants for the gym and throw something cute on this fall. Doing so will most likely improve one's mood, especially when catching a glimpse of those fabulous clothes in a mirror.
So Ritzy Baby moms, tell us what is your favorite mommy wardrobe staple that is functional yet makes you feel fabulous?Ritzy Babyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00722722828021400428noreply@blogger.com1
